Infosys, a leading IT services company, is planning to hire 20,000 new freshers in the financial year 2026, underscoring its strategic shift towards artificial intelligence (AI)-driven services. This announcement comes as the company anticipates nearly half of its work to become AI-related within the next two to three years.

At the Bloomberg New Economy Forum 2026, Infosys CEO Salil Parekh revealed that AI has rapidly become a significant part of their business, currently contributing over 8% of the company’s revenue. With more than 80,000 employees already leveraging AI coding tools, the company is not only expanding its workforce but also ensuring that the new hires receive comprehensive AI training before deployment.

This AI training for fresh recruits signals a new era in IT hiring, where understanding and implementing AI technologies is essential. The training will equip freshers to help client businesses successfully adopt AI solutions and navigate organizational transformations. It highlights a broader industry trend where the demand for AI expertise is growing and firms are investing heavily in human capital to support this transition.

Rather than reducing recruitment due to automation, Infosys’ approach points to expanding hiring efforts to fulfill the rising demand for AI-enabled services. These services include software development with AI-assisted coding, software testing and maintenance, modernizing legacy IT systems, and creating AI-driven tools capable of performing complex tasks.

According to Parekh, if current growth trends persist, AI could account for 20% to 30% of Infosys’ workload in the upcoming quarters, potentially reaching up to 50% in the medium term. This transformation is setting new expectations for the skill sets freshers will need as the company’s IT workflows evolve.

For HR and recruitment professionals, Infosys’ strategy illustrates the critical importance of integrating AI proficiency into recruitment and onboarding programs. It also suggests a future where hiring decisions increasingly prioritize candidates’ adaptability to AI technologies and their ability to work alongside automated systems to deliver innovative client solutions.
